Review decisions

Keep a sports research ledger

Record decisions before results so the review remains reproducible.

2 minute read · Updated September 17, 2026

A useful ledger preserves the original reasoning, including passes and incomplete information. Record a hypothetical research decision before the event, then add the result later without overwriting the original fields. This makes the review less vulnerable to hindsight.

Work through it

  1. Store the event, market, line, price, timestamp and source. Include the model version or written rationale and whether the observation was actionable at that time.
  2. Record passes and data failures alongside selections. Define settlement rules before calculating any performance measure.
  3. Review the full period, including losses and unresolved events. Separate hypothetical analysis from actual transactions and include the denominator behind every rate.

Check your result

  • Original entries are retained.
  • Hypothetical and actual activity are separated.
  • Every summary can be traced to individual records.
